First of all, it was made by Italians! The best espresso we ever had was in Italy, so we can safely assume that Italians know what they are doing when it comes to coffee! Stovetop makers originated in Italy almost a hundred years ago. They were great back then and are still going strong now. A lot of espresso connoisseurs swear by them and claim that they are the most authentic way of making espresso. We tend to agree!
This is an easy question, with an even easier answer. Bialetti! If giving an opportunity to choose, always go with a Bialetti stovetop espresso maker. There is a simple reason why. They were the first to come up with it! Their coffee maker features a classic octagonal design that does wonders for the coffee. It disperses heat uniformly across the entire pot, making sure you get them most out of your coffee grind. They predominately use aluminum in their products, with a dash of stainless steel, so all their stovetop pots are both durable and lightweight.
Bialetti also takes great pride in their products and offer an extended two-year warranty on all of their products. They are aware that stovetop makers – or Moka makers, as they are popularly dubbed – can break too, and that is why they offer replacement parts and other accessories on their web.
And if that is not enough for you, keep in mind that Bialetti stovetop espresso makers have thousands and thousands of satisfied users across the globe! Just head over to Amazon and check out the reviews. You will be hard pressed to find another manufacturer that garners that much acclaim from such a huge number of people!
Using a stovetop espresso maker is usually a no-brainer, especially if you are well-versed in coffee brewing already. But what if you are not? There are a few tips and tricks that can help you get a perfect cup every single time, and we are more than willing to share them with you!
Hint: If you want your espresso to come out really perfect and strong, keep an eye on the top chamber. Once it fills to about half, take it off the flame. You will get less of the beverage, but it will really pack a punch!
The bottom line is, rinse and repeat. Moka makers are truly low-maintenance appliances that don’t have to be pampered or coddled. Allow them to cool down after every use, and remove the coffee holder to get rid of the waste. After that rinse the holder and the coffee chamber in cold water. Don’t use any detergent on the setup, it washes off with difficulty and can get trapped in the filter. That is pretty much it.
Keep in mind that the rubber seal will go eventually. If you see water coming out from where the two joints meet, it is time to replace the seal, and if it is coming out from the valve, then it is time for a new valve.
You can also expect the filter to get clogged after some time. This can be easily solved and there is no need to replace the filter. Simply take it out – remove the rubber seal from it – and place the filter over an open flame, preferably on your stove top. Leave it there for a minute, then take it off and allow it to cool. The flame will bake coffee grind that was causing the clog. Simply bang it gently on the side of the sink and that is it! It will work as new again!
